My opinion… after listening to a lot of mainstream media black men and popular social media black men eulogize on KS behalf is, Kevin Samuels wasn’t a monk backed by a monastery giving ‘free advice’ to try to help change the world. He was a youtube personality. He was cherry picking talk points rooted in misogynoir to provoke clicks and generate revenue for himself. Expecting black women to grieve him is asking too much. I feel like women have the right to reflect on the negative impact a public figure’s message, or marketing strategy may have had on them. And I’m not feeling the idea that women are supposed to dig to look for the ‘tough love’ inside abusive rhetoric. As well men with superiority complex issues will be regurgitating his quotes for years to come. What’s worrying though is increasingly there seems to be almost an unspoken expectation being grafted onto black male identity where it’s becoming more normal to have nothing good to say about women. Black men stay thinking we can somehow ‘He-Man Woman Hater’s Club’ into being seen in a better light by our oppressors. Its nothing new it’s just now a lot more black men seem to be subscribing to it, basing their identity around enjoying hearing black women get verbally disparaged.
